Mobile County Jail Roster

The Mobile County jail roster is published by the Mobile County Sheriff's Office and shows people currently held at Mobile County Metro Jail. The official report covers name, date, charges, and bond. It is a custody snapshot, not a criminal history. This page explains how to use the Mobile County inmate search, what each field on the roster means, where the jail facilities sit, how visitation and mail work, and how to send commissary money. The Sheriff also runs a separate 24-hour booking page for very recent arrivals.

Mobile County Jail Roster Overview

The Mobile County Sheriff's Office at 510 South Royal Street operates the inmate lookup tool. The public-facing pages are mobileso.com/whos-in-jail and the direct report at all.mobileso.com. The current inmates report is a table list rather than a click-through profile system. The fields visible are NAME, DATE, CHARGES, and BONDS. Sheriff Paul Burch was elected in November 2022 and sworn in January 2023; the official staff page also names Warden Pat Mitchell and Deputy Warden Russell Mitchell.

The roster does not show federal detainees in BOP custody, sentenced state inmates in Alabama Department of Corrections facilities, or people held by immigration. Those use different systems described on our released inmates page.

How to Use the Mobile County Inmate Roster

The MCSO current inmates report does not expose search inputs; it shows a flat table of everyone in custody. You browse or use your browser's Find feature to locate a name. For very recent bookings, the 24-hour booking page is more useful.

  1. Open mobileso.com/whos-in-jail or the direct report at all.mobileso.com.
  2. Wait for the inmate table to load. The report can be long, so allow scroll time.
  3. Use Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) and type a last name to jump to that entry.
  4. Read the row carefully: NAME, DATE, CHARGES, and BONDS are stacked left to right.
  5. For very recent arrests, check mobileso.com/24-hour-booking as well.

The MCSO sheriff homepage links each of these tools and is the front door to the live jail data.

If a name is missing from the current report, the person may have bonded out, been released, transferred, or never been booked at Metro Jail.

Roster Search Fields

Booking Process in Mobile County

Arresting agencies deliver people to Metro Jail at 450 St. Emanuel Street for intake. Intake creates a custody record that flows into the public roster. The roster typically shows the person's name, custody date, charges, and bond. Bond amounts may be set per charge; a zero may mean no bond yet or a hold rather than a true no-bond decision.

If a court case has been filed, the charge label may include a case prefix such as CC for circuit criminal, DC for district criminal, M for municipal, or GJ for grand jury. That prefix is the bridge to the court record at Mobile County court records or the daily court dockets on Alacourt.

How to Contact an Inmate

Mail rules at Metro Jail are specific. All written incoming non-privileged inmate mail must be on a metered postcard. Mail must clearly identify sender name and return address. Mail must be addressed to the inmate using full name and the Mobile County Metro Jail address. Padded envelopes are not allowed. Mail not clearly identified as legal mail is opened and inspected. Metro Jail is not obligated to pay postage due. After release, mail is stamped "Return to Sender, No longer here" or held three working days for opened-and-inspected mail.

For medical questions about an inmate, call 251-574-3368, leave a name and contact info, and a return call will be made. Medical care is contracted through NaphCare.

Commissary and Inmate Funds

Effective September 1, 2023, Money Clerks no longer accept money orders for inmate trust deposits. Inmate money and commissary go through inmatecanteen.com. MCSO directs questions or issues about the site to ICCSupport@TKC32M.com or the help chat on the site; do not call the facility for website problems.

Bonding is handled through the MCSO bonding portal. The main jail portal is portal.mobileso.com. Both are listed in the Access menu on the Sheriff's homepage.
